CHARLOTTE HARDY
“My work is driven by my imagination and love of pattern and nature. Decorative ceramics are set up in the studio with seasonal flowers and produce and a whimsical narrative starts to unfold in a playful and illustrative manner.
Inspiration comes from gardens, the seasons, Folk and Outsider Art, textiles, and being in nature.
Bright colours are laid down first as under layers to add depth and luminosity and then I start to draw with paint, working with energy and expression. I’m always aiming for the composition to have a sense of space and stillness, contrasting with the abundant character of the subject matter. Still life objects become a celebration of rich decoration.”
