Hawk Moth
Inspired by the beautiful photograph of Woolf’s mother, Julia Stephens, sat in Talland garden surrounded by an abundance of Japanese anemones, this waistcoat features an embroidered flowering anemone stem. Several of Woolf’s early memories of her mother associated with anemones.
The embroidered text reads “I believe in forever altering one’s aspect to the sun” – Woolf’s Diary
The snail on the pocket of this waistcoat is in reference to Kew Gardens, Woolf’s essay written from the point of view of snail and the Hawk moth is referenced in Jacob’s Room.
Outer body: Vintage cotton twill, Japanese vintage kimono silks, vintage silk/cotton threads
Lining: Vintage cotton
Buttons: Curzo, made entirely from recycled materials
