JENNIE HULME
Jenny Hulme is a London-based ceramic artist. She completed the two-year Ceramics Diploma at City Lit in 2025 and holds a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles from Nottingham Trent University. Prior to establishing her ceramics practice, she worked as a womenswear fashion buyer.
Her one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces emerge through a process-led approach that moves between drawing, collage, printmaking, and slab-building with clay. Drawing on influences from minimalism, constructivism, architecture, and landscape, her work explores the relationship between structure, surface, and materiality.
“My practice explores the tension between balance and stillness, surface and structure. Materiality and process are central to my approach. Ideas evolve through drawing, collage, and printmaking before being realised in clay. I am particularly interested in how painterly surfaces and line can be integrated through glaze and slip techniques.
My work reflects a dialogue between the architectural and the organic, bridging the built environment with the natural world and drawing inspiration from both landscape and industry. With a background in fashion and textiles, and a previous career in womenswear buying, I bring a sensitivity to colour, form, and surface to my work.
Influenced by minimalism, constructivism, and geometric abstraction, my pieces resist rigidity; straight lines waver, introducing rhythm, movement, and a sense of connection. I aim to create objects that invite touch and contemplation, enriching the spaces they inhabit.”
